Some friends of ours invited my whole family and several other families out to dinner one evening, their treat. The occasion was that of thanks giving, not "Thanksgiving", but thanks giving. They had been humbled by God's provision for them and wanted to share their rejoicing in this with others. The idea to do this came to them in looking back to a time when friends feasted together in sharing their abundance. That feast compelled me to look back on God's abundance toward me, in some cases by taking things away.--I received more than a free meal that night.
Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yeild no food, the flock be cut from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will take joy in the God of my salvation. Habakkuk 3:17-19
